FAQ

Questions, answered.

The short answers. For step-by-step guides see the Knowledge Base; for everything else, the forums.

Getting started
What do I need to run netplex.?
A 64-bit Linux host with KVM available (/dev/kvm), 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM to start, and 20 GB free disk plus room for your images. Running in a VM works if nested virtualisation is enabled. There's no client to install - everything is in the browser.
Is there really a free tier?
Yes - the Associate tier is free forever: 1,000 nodes per lab, the React canvas, live terminal, packet capture, built-in tool nodes and a read-only API. It's genuinely useful for CCNA and CCNP study.
Migrating from EVE-NG
Can I import my existing EVE-NG labs?
Yes. Import an EVE-NG .unl, a GNS3 .gns3project or a containerlab YAML in about thirty seconds. Nodes, links and interface assignments carry over.
Do I still need to run fixpermissions?
Never. The image pipeline converts, sets permissions, organises and boot-tests every upload automatically, and shows you each step. No SSH, no CLI.
Pricing & licensing
Is netplex. really free for Australian schools?
Yes - completely free for every Australian primary and secondary school. Full classroom platform, student pods, teacher dashboard, exam mode, live monitoring and marking tools, all included. We install the software on your school's server and run hands-on training for your teachers at no cost. TAFEs and universities, contact us for a quote. Email [email protected] or visit the Education page to get started.
How much cheaper is annual billing?
Annual is roughly two months free: Professional is $199/yr (vs $239.88 monthly), Architect is $499/yr (vs $599.88). Switch the toggle on the pricing page to compare. Australian schools pay nothing regardless.
Will a licence blip lock my running lab?
No. Enterprise uses MAC + TPM fingerprinting with a 30-day grace period on hardware migration, and netplex licence rekey opens a support ticket automatically. Reliability beats DRM zeal.
Features
Is the multi-host VXLAN stitch available now?
The distributed multi-host VXLAN stitch is on the roadmap and currently in beta. Single-host emulation, the canvas, consoles and the Architect automation toolbox ship today (Terraform and Ansible are in beta).
Which vendors are supported?
140+ device kinds across 65+ vendors - Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Nokia, MikroTik and more. netplex. ships the device definitions; you supply your own licensed images and the pipeline does the rest.
