eNSP is a good teaching tool that Huawei stopped moving forward. The classic build fights Windows 11 and VirtualBox, and eNSP Pro - the one that fixed those problems - is restricted to certified partners. netplex. runs Huawei VRP images in a browser tab, on Linux, next to every other vendor you need.
The honest state of eNSP in 2026: the free one is stuck, and the good one you probably cannot get. Classic eNSP is a Windows application that drives VirtualBox underneath. It has not had meaningful development in years, and on Windows 11 people hit install failures, VirtualBox version conflicts and devices that refuse to start. eNSP Pro is a real modernisation - it runs on Windows or Linux, it is server-based, and it fixes the compatibility mess - but Huawei restricts it to certified partners, and in practice it manages around three to five devices on a machine with 16 GB of RAM and 8 cores. If you are studying for HCIA or HCIP and you are not inside a Huawei partner, that leaves you maintaining an old Windows VM to keep a simulator alive.
It is not that eNSP is bad.
It is that you cannot get at it.
Windows 11 is a fight, and Windows is the only option
Classic eNSP is a Windows-only desktop app tied to a specific VirtualBox generation. On Windows 11 that combination breaks in ways nobody upstream is fixing, and the usual workaround is a Windows 10 virtual machine kept alive purely to run a simulator. On a Mac or a Linux box you are already two layers of virtualisation deep before your first router boots.
eNSP Pro is gated behind partner status
The version that solves the compatibility problem is not generally available. It ships to Huawei certified partners, which means most students, most contractors and most enterprises studying Huawei kit simply cannot download it. A fix you are not allowed to have is not a fix.
Huawei only, in a multi-vendor world
eNSP runs Huawei VRP and very little else. Real networks are not single-vendor, and neither are real interview questions. If you want a Huawei switch trunking to a Cisco switch, with a Juniper firewall in the path, eNSP is the wrong tool by design.
It simulates the classroom, not the device
Classic eNSP is close enough to VRP for exam practice and no closer. Feature gaps show up exactly where the interesting problems are - deeper routing behaviour, timers, hardware-specific output. When you move from the simulator to a real device, some of what you learned does not transfer.

The eNSP Pro figures come from Huawei's own documented requirements and partner availability. You supply your own Huawei images either way - netplex. does not redistribute vendor firmware.
The short version: run VRP without running Windows 10 forever.
If eNSP works on your machine and Huawei is all you ever touch, keep it - it is free and it passes exams. The moment you need Windows 11, a Mac, a second vendor in the topology, or a lab a colleague can open, you have outgrown it. netplex. boots your Huawei images under QEMU on Linux and puts the console in a browser tab, with Cisco and Juniper in the same diagram.
Straight with you - where eNSP still wins
eNSP is free, it needs no images from anywhere - the device behaviour is built in - and for HCIA-level study that is a real advantage, because there is no image sourcing problem to solve first. It is also the tool Huawei's own courseware is written against, so if you are following an official curriculum the screenshots will match. netplex. asks you to bring your own Huawei VRP images, and if you cannot get them, this comparison does not help you. And eNSP Pro, if you are inside a partner and can get it, is a solid modern product. What netplex. offers is the case where you cannot get Pro, cannot keep classic running, or need Huawei to talk to something that is not Huawei.
